AI Share of Voice (AI SOV) is the AI-search analog to traditional brand share-of-voice. It measures how often a brand appears in AI answers for a fixed set of category-defining queries, across multiple LLM platforms.
The core metrics are mention rate (the percentage of queries that name the brand), approximate rank position (how many other brands were named before it), and citation share (the percentage of all brand mentions in a query that belong to the brand).
Tracked monthly with a stable query set, AI SOV is the leading indicator of whether GEO investments are compounding. Mention rate moves slowly but durably; week-to-week noise is high enough that weekly tracking adds little signal.
